Shawn was appointed as SaskCentral’s CEO on January 4, 2021. He is a coach, collaborator, storyteller, change agent, life-long leadership student, and advocate for credit unions as the values-based, cooperative-banking alternative for Canadians.
Shawn has 25 years of financial services and credit union experience, as a leader, keynote speaker, senior executive and board director. This includes his past roles as Executive Vice President, Governance and Strategy, at Conexus Credit Union, and as President and CEO of Prospera Credit Union in B.C., where he initiated one of the largest merger and acquisition transactions in Canadian credit union history. Shawn has actively led within the Credit Union system, currently serving on the boards of Everlink, Celero, and CUCC, and is a past board member of Concentra Bank (now Wyth).
Early in his career, Shawn was a founding partner of a real estate development group in South America, and established himself as a consultant providing strategic planning facilitation and leadership development for a variety of national and international companies.
Shawn is committed to continuous learning and development. He holds an Executive MBA from Queen’s School of Business, attained his ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Business, and completed the Strategic Leadership program at the Banff Leadership Centre.
Shawn has been recognized nationally for his accomplishments, receiving the 2001 National Innovation Award, the 2007 World Council of Credit Unions Young Credit Union Professionals Scholarship, and the 2009 National Young Leader award, selected by Credit Union Central of Canada.
Shawn exemplifies the courageous leadership needed to guide SaskCentral through the current transformation in the financial services sector, and achieve its vision to be an efficient, focused utility and portal for credit unions to the global financial network. He is committed to the critical role SaskCentral, as a Tier II organization, must play to equip and support Saskatchewan credit unions to be a values-based alternative in the financial services industry. He is guided by a mission to help ensure credit unions achieve financial sustainability and continue to thrive.
