Adding Value for Credit Unions

SaskCentral exemplifies the cooperative principle of working together.  Through SaskCentral, credit unions are able to combine and focus their resources. This provides a mechanism for shared leadership and collective action, creating an incubator for new ideas and enabling credit unions to undertake initiatives that are more practical or cost-effective to approach in a unified way.

A few examples of the types of initiatives SaskCentral undertakes for Saskatchewan credit unions include: market research to support informed decision making; the system image campaign and system public and media relations to present a positive and consistent credit union public image; system strategic direction to support effective system-wide strategy development; government affairs to ensure productive relationships with regulators and to influence public policy; and corporate governance, to maintain the integrity of our system’s democratic structure and to support credit union governance structures.

Operations – Relationships with Strategic Partners

Over the years, SaskCentral has invested in a number of strategic partner organizations on behalf of Saskatchewan credit unions. This ensures continued access to a full range of financial products and services required by credit union members. If your credit union has a good idea for a new service, or thoughts on how our partners could provide existing services more effectively, the first step is to speak directly to the partner organization. They have the expertise and the systems in place to handle requests and to respond to operational questions.

If you require additional input to this process, please contact your account manager. They will ensure that your request regarding any operational enhancement or product or service development is channelled to the appropriate area within SaskCentral.  SaskCentral and the strategic partner will then work together to develop a solution that meets your needs.

Policy – Relationships with Strategic Partners

Policy recommendations and issues are those that would require discussion and resolution through our co-operative democratic processes. If you have questions or have identified opportunities that involve policy, please bring these directly to the attention of your delegate or SaskCentral board member.  The board and executive of SaskCentral will see to it that your thoughts and concerns are reflected in our review of SaskCentral policy or will be raised with the relevant partner organization.
